Feb. 14 - The Connecting for Health team, including Browsersoft Inc. using OpenHRE™, successfully demonstrated the exchange of health information through a Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) prototype. The team securely transferred healthcare data between MA-SHARE, the Indiana Health Information Exchange and the Mendocino Health Records Exchange, and local public health departments within the regions participating in the CSC consortium -- Boston, Mass., Indianapolis, Ind., and Mendocino County, Calif.

The National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics has published the Functional Requirements Needed for the Initial Definition of a Nationwide Health Information Network discussion that they presented at the recent Second NHIN Forum. We believe that these requirements apply to regional efforts as well.

November 17, 2005 - According to the article Electronic Health Record Certification Group Moves Closer to Testing (Free registration required to see complete article), "The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology ... will hold a teleconference to let EHR vendors know how they can participate in the pilot tests of EHRs for physicians’ offices and other outpatient settings. CCHIT will begin accepting applications immediately after the call from those wishing to participate."

Major Step Toward Secure and Portable Health Information for American Consumers

HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt announced today the award of contracts totaling $18.6 million to four groups of health care and health information technology organizations to develop prototypes for a Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) architecture. The contracts awarded to these four consortia will move the nation toward the President’s goal of personal electronic health records by creating a uniform architecture for health care information that can follow consumers throughout their lives.

Over 1,500 health care policy, clinical and technology leaders attended.
